Updates from IFJ & FATPREN on Projects Under Democracy at Work Fund
As part of a project led by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and the Argentine Federation of Press Workers (FATPREN), with support from the Democracy at Work Fund, several actions were carried out in Argentina aimed at strengthening journalism and trade union organization in contexts of growing hostility:
61st Ordinary Congress “Osvaldo Bayer”: With the participation of press unions from across the country, this federal debate was held to define strategic lines for strengthening the union, analyze the current situation in the sector, and reaffirm the commitment to defending free journalism and rights. Presentation of the 2024 Freedom of Expression Report: This report compiles and systematizes violations of press freedom that occurred during the last year in Argentina, highlighting a scenario of growing institutional, judicial, and symbolic violence toward press workers.(https://fiplatina.press/nota/argentina-se-presento-el-informe-sobre-libertad-de-expresion-2024)
Delivery of protective equipment for journalists: In response to repeated acts of repression during social protests, safety equipment was distributed to journalists with the aim of guaranteeing minimum conditions for them to carry out their work in public spaces. These actions reaffirm the joint commitment of the IFJ and FATPREN to defending freedom of expression, the safety of journalists, and strengthening the trade union movement in the media sector.
